Membership Criteria

Watford Asian Community Care has been set up

  • To provide facilities in the interest of social welfare with the object of improving the conditions for those persons in need of such facilities, particularly for persons of Asian decent. Such facilities shall include the provision of luncheon clubs and other recreational facilities for elderly persons
  • To relieve persons in need suffering or distress particularly persons of Asian decent, through the provision of information and support.

Based on the above mentioned charitable objects of WACC, those who fulfil the following criteria are eligible to apply for one of the 3 classes of membership; Full Membership, Associate Membership and Organisational membership.

1) Full Membership

Any individual of South Asian ethnic origin – viz. Indian, Pakistani, Bangladeshi or Sri Lankan - who is

  • aged 50 or above
  • a resident in Watford, Three Rivers or Hertsmere
  • socially isolated, housebound, elderly or disabled

shall be eligible to become a Full Member by paying the prescribed fee.

Any individual, who is a carer of an eligible Full Member, and can benefit from a break by attending the luncheon club, is also entitled to become a Full Member by paying the prescribed fee.

Full Members may be accepted via referrals from Hertfordshire Social Services, GPs and other recognised statutory and voluntary agencies. Transport may be provided to enable Full Members to attend the luncheon club closest to their home. There will be a charge made for providing transport and lunch. There may be a charge made for any additional recreational and other facilities.

Full Members, who move away from the area due to family reasons or personal circumstances, may be allowed to remain full members, provided they make their own arrangements for transport and do not make additional calls on resources or services provided by WACC.

In addition to the above service facilities, Full Members will have the opportunity to discuss issues and to vote at all General Meetings of WACC.

2) Associate Membership

Any individual from any ethnic background, who subscribes to the Aims of WACC and wishes to contribute to its development, is eligible to become an Associate Member of WACC, on payment of the prescribed Associate Membership fee.

Associate Membership may also be considered from individuals who work in the areas served by WACC and who fulfil at least one of the key criteria listed above.

Associate Members will not have voting rights and will not have access to the services provided to Full Members.

3) Organisational membership
Any community or voluntary organisation that is run predominantly for and by members of the Asian community and whose Aims and Objects are similar to those of WACC, is eligible, on payment of the prescribed fee, to become an Organisational Member. The Organisation will be represented by one nominated member on the Executive Committee of WACC. This representative will have voting rights but will not automatically be able to access all the services provided by WACC.

  • Become involved in project groups to progress WACC objectives
  • Share best practice and ideas to promote WACC developments and campaigns
  • Recommend an individual who can act as an subject expert to support WACC activities or offer your individual expertise
  • Cast a single vote at our AGM
  • Priority invitations to special events and function
  • Priority access to expert advice and information on issues affecting the Asian community

Please send the completed form, payment and the required information to WACC’s office address.

bulletWhat happens to the application form:

The Management Committee considers applications in their Executive meetings. Each applicant will be notified in writing or a receipt will be sent whether or not they  have been accepted as a member. Individual Membership will run from 1 April, for 12 months.
